AngloAmerican Competition

AngloAmerican (AA) sought to re-establish its primary position as a global leader in mining as the investment, partner and employer of choice. By means of a spatial intervention to their campus of five buildings (two of which are of historical value to the company and also of significant architectural heritage value), located in Marshalltown, AA intended to reaffirm their commitment to the architectural, cultural, economic and social future in the heart of the Johannesburg Central Business District (JCBD).
The Matrix… developed the brief and acted as coordinator for a two stage design competition for the “re-invention” of AA’s campus. The First Stage comprised of conceptual design proposals from which a maximum of five finalists was selected, by a celebrated jury, to develop their respective designs for the Second Stage, from which one winner selected.
