Mossel Bay Architectural Guideline

Identifying the need to protect the spatial quality of, primarily, the historic core of their city, the Mossel Bay Municipality (MBM) called for a set of architectural guidelines to set a basis for future development. Through intensive consultation with the MBM and various interested groups resident in Mossel Bay, The Matrix… developed an Architectural Design Guideline Manual (ADGM) to assist building industry professionals, developers and individuals who intend developing land or altering or renovating existing buildings. Furthermore, the ADGM was designed to act as a tool to assist the MBM in assessing planning applications. The process of formulating the ADGM began with an Inventory, to understand the spatial characteristics of the focus area, as well as a desktop study of Underlying Policy Documents. This informed a Vision that set the basis for Principles for Future Development. From this, a comprehensive set of Architectural Guidelines were developed.
