Sarah Bartmann Centre of Remembrance

Prof Herholdt, together with Mrs T Hardman of the NMMU, was appointed by the Department of Arts and Culture to be the competition co-ordinators for a national architectural Competition for the design of the KhoiSan Sarah Bartmann Cultural Centre in Hankey, in 2009.  This competition was a two staged competition open to all professional architects registered with the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP).  SAIA accreditation was obtained. The competition was website based. A two staged competition was launched in 2009 and a further stage was added after the Jury could not make a decision on a winner after the second stage. Following a workshop with the finalists, a new Jury selected the entry of Chris Wilkinson as the winning entry. The construction of the project started in 2014.
