Urban Strategy and Housing Design in Duncan Village
This project comprises High Density, Low Cost housing of 3,500 units, and is initiated by the Buffalo City Municipality (BCM). The aim of the project is to improve the living conditions of Duncan Village and to provide the community with formal housing and associated facilities. The Duncan Village Urban Design and Architectural Project offers a radical approach to a fairly unique situation. The approach, influenced mainly by the undulating topography and high density required, takes a combination of urban design and architectural solutions into consideration. Terracing, legibility, variation and site specific designs are some of the main components. The housing tool kit, offers a number of different house solutions that can be built within the available budget.
